Black Bear Still on the Loose
Residents in Derry Township continue to see the black bear, which was first spotted in the township on June 13.
Between June 19 and 20 the bear was spotted at least two times near the area of Waltonville Road - the same area it was previously seen. Full Story
LD Approves $56 Million Budget
No Tax Increase

The Lower Dauphin Board of School Directors approved the district’s 2010-11 budget of $56,502,00 at its Monday, June 21 meeting. It then went on to consider an $18 million bond issue to cover the cost of the Conewago Elementary School expansion project. And it did all this without any tax increase for the coming year. New Employees at LD

Several new employees were approved by the Lower Dauphin School Board at its June 14 meeting in preparation for the upcoming 2010- 2011 school year.
The board appointed Justin Hanula to serve as the principal at South Hanover Elementary School. He replaces Pat Rhine who will retire from the school district at the end of the month. Full Story

Derek Hines, a 2005 graduate of Hershey High School and 2009 graduate of Penn State, has completed Marine Corps basic and infantry training and has been assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment at Camp Lejeune, N.C., and is now preparing for his unit’s upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. Library to Get Facelift

The Hershey Library will undergo a $100,000 facelift, with Phase One of the project set to begin this fall.
On Tuesday, June 22, The Derry Township Board of Supervisors granted the library approval to spend $8,500 to hire an interior designer from Larson Design Group. Full Story
