A celebration of the life of Laura Olweiler, who died after being swept away by the floodwaters of the Conewago Creek, will be held Friday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Life Center, 411 S. 40th St., Harrisburg.

Olweiler’s body was found July 26 approximately threequarters of a mile downstream from where she attempted to cross the creek July 23 around 9 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police said.

Olweiler was with a 22-year-old relative when the pair attempted to cross the creek and were swept away near Koser Road in Conewago Township, according to police.

The 22-year-old girl was able to grab a log and hold on until she was rescued by a neighbor, who heard her cries for help, police said.

For the next three days, search and rescue teams scoured the creek in the water, on foot and through the air, but were unable to find Olweiler.

She was found by a civilian shortly before 8 p.m. July 26.

Olweiler worked at Mangia, Mangia on Hershey Road and was the daughter of Ross and Karen Olweiler from Mount Joy Township.
