Bob at the Movies: ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’

FREE

By Bob Garver Since Po (Jack Black), the main character of the “Kung Fu Panda” movies, is known for his corpulent eating habits, it makes sense to compare the animated franchise to a sort of comfort food. These movies aren’t exactly “healthy” choices that send the imagination soaring, but they aren’t “junk” that people outside the target audience are likely […]

While putting together last week’s column of a complete meal, I gave you pork chops as the meat dish. However, in digging for recipes, I ran across a treasure trove of pork recipes and thought I’d pass them along. After all, pork is one of the “big three” – beef, chicken and pork meat dishes, so here they are. I […]

100, Minus 2

Tom Yingst, a popular local Bald Eagle watcher and WWII veteran, celebrated his “100, minus 2” birthday on Feb. 21. Tom was surprised with a birthday breakfast with his daughters Leslie Johnson and Dian Yingst and a host of friends and farmers at Manada Hill Restaurant in West Hanover Township. Tom and his team were responsible for making Radio Free […]

While a night out to a place where people are smoking may not seem appealing to some, there is one location that seems to buck the trend, and that’s Hummelstown’s recently reopened Guillotine Cigar Lounge at 15 S. Hanover St. And this is a one-of-kind place for those who enjoy good Italian food, good bourbon and a good cigar. The […]

Bob at the Movies: ‘Dune: Part Two’

FREE

By Bob Garver I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first installment of director Denis Villeneuve’s take on the Frank Herbert sci-fi classic “Dune” back in 2021. The sounds and visuals were great, and I understood why it won so many technical Oscars that year, but I couldn’t get invested in the characters or story, so I didn’t recommend the […]

‘It’s Just Serendipitous’

Hershey High School Theatre is always full of surprises for students, audience and community. This year’s production of “Seussical” is no exception, according to co-directors Michelle O’Brien and Josh Yentsch. Seussical is a musical comedy, based on the many children’s stories of Dr. Seuss, with most of its plot being based on “Horton Hears a Who!” “Gertrude McFuzz,” and “Horton […]

I’m always looking for something that can make up the major part of the meal or a meal in itself. I don’t think I’ve recently given you a selection of recipes that will give you a complete meal. You know, a meat, starch, veggie and dessert. I came across a group of suggested recipes that do exactly that. I like […]

Bob at the Movies: ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training’

FREE

By Bob Garver NOTE: This Japanese film is available in both “subbed” and “dubbed” versions. This review is based on the “subbed” version – Japanese spoken with English subtitles. Prior to “Hashira Training,” my exposure to the “Demon Slayer” anime series was limited to the 2020 film “Mugen Train.” Well, that and all the cosplayers I see every day dressed […]

It was a day of laughter, learning and fun for kids and parents on Friday, Feb. 16, when Hershey Children’s Museum opened its doors. Located at 3065 Elizabethtown Road, across from Adventure Sports, it has 40 different exhibits to explore, ranging from camping, visiting the farm, the grocery store, the barbershop and even checking in on NASA control. The museum […]
