The public safety director for Middletown Borough was arrested on DUI charges last night (Thursday) after crashing his car into a tree on West Chocolate Avenue (Route 422) around 9:45 p.m., Derry Township Police said.
At the scene, 51-year-old William M. Baldwin of Hummelstown was arrested for DUI and cited for a traffic violation, police said.
Police said Baldwin’s blood-alcohol level was between .10 and .16 percent.
The crash happened west of the intersection of Hockersville Road on Route 422, when Baldwin allegedly drove off the roadway and crashed into a tree. He was uninjured in the wreck, police said.
Baldwin was hired by Middletown in the spring of last year.
According to the job description posted by the borough when the position was advertised, the public safety director, “Manages the police department and provides oversight regarding emergency medical services and fire services provided within the borough and coordinates with and offers support to entities providing such services within the borough.”
