Laura Epler Spangenberg


 

 

Laura Epler Spangenberg, 57, of Hummelstown, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2024, surrounded by family at the Hershey Medical Center.

Laura was born on March 1,1967 to Suzanne M. (Taylor) and J. Frank Epler, Middletown. In addition to her parents, Laura is survived by two sons, Benjamin R. Spangenberg, and Lucas J. Spangenberg, of Hummelstown. She is also survived by sister, Christine (Kenneth) Horting of Elizabethtown; brother, David (Krista) Epler of Greensburg; nieces Erin Horting and Anne Horting; nephews Thomas Epler and John Epler; many cherished family members, friends, and her beloved cat Charlie.

Laura was a graduate of Lower Dauphin High School, Lock Haven University, and Shippensburg University where she received a master’s degree. She was a member of Geyers United Methodist Church, Middletown, and locally attended Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown.

“Woo,” as many friends fondly called her, was a big advocate in her community and supported various events throughout her lifetime. She was a supporter of the Londonderry Troop 97 Boy Scouts, where both sons achieved Eagle Scout rankings. She also supported the Lower Dauphin Football and Band boosters over the years. Laura was very proud of her sons and involved in everything they did.

Laura’s dedication, passion, and hard work ethic was pivotal in her more than 25 years as a pre-school Inclusion Consultant with the Capital Area Intermediate Unit. She loved her work and the children she assisted.

Laura’s infectious spirit, laughter, and smile were a central theme in her daily life. This was evident in all that she did and with everyone she interacted. Laura will be dearly missed.

There will be a Celebration of Life service held at Grace United Methodist Church, 433 E. Main St., Hummelstown, PA, on Saturday, May 11. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Laura’s name to CAIU Early Intervention via checks payable to Champions for Children, Attn: Daren Moran, 55 Miller St., Enola, PA 17025 or to Grace Christian Childcare, Attn: Joanne Stong, 433 E.
