Police Investigating Crash on 422 That Sent Five People to HospitalFree Access


Police in Derry Township are investigating a single-vehicle crash that sent five people to the hospital Monday morning, Aug. 21.

Update: Police have released the name of the driver: Skyler Spangler, 20, of Red Lion

Here is the press release from the Derry Township Police Department …

On August 21, 2023 at approximately 8:39 am, a motor vehicle crash was reported along the westbound lanes of State Route 422 (West Chocolate Avenue) in front of the Hershey’s Technical Center.  A single vehicle was traveling west on Rt. 422 and veered off the north side of the roadway, going down an embankment and striking head-on into a large tree.  Three adults and two children were inside of the vehicle, a large SUV, and all were transported to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center by Life Lion EMS for further treatment.  Injuries are described as serious, but current conditions are not known at this time.  Names of the occupants are not being released at this time until police are certain that all appropriate family members are contacted by hospital staff and are made aware of the incident.  The westbound lanes of Rt. 422 were shut down for several hours while investigators from the Derry Township Police Department and the Dauphin County Accident Reconstruction Team documented and gathered evidence at the crash scene.
